Why I create art

2010.01.20

At a very early age my father instilled a passion for art in me. Our visits to museums and art galleries opened up a creative world I fell in love with easily. This creative world allows me to say things about the world we live in that words cannot describe. I am spiritually engaged. My mind and heart are set on fire. I am empowered by this gift of creating. This storm of creation that spins around me lifts my love ones and the people around me.

A look at my new polished bronze and blue dichroic sculpture

2010.01.18

Here’s a short video of the process I’m using to create the blue dichroic crystals that will fill my highly polished bronze sculpture.  You’ve got to have some imagination to get an idea of what I’m creating.  But, if you’ve seen my other polished bronze and dichroic work you’re ahead of the game.

Below the video are two photos of the wax figure front and back that will be cast into bronze and then highly polished to a mirror finish.  It stands 27″.  I’ll put it on a 5″ square solid black granite base.  The polished bronze will look like 24k gold.  Elegant!

I am inspired by the Art in the movie “Cleopatra”.

2009.11.15

Cleopatra is an epic and fantastic movie set.  Believe it or not, there is so much in this movie that moves me in my art.  I have so much respect for the artists and craftsmen who designed and built this movie set.    So much of this done with fine taste and detail.  Today, we have forgotten so much and have so much to relearn from history.  Study art history young artists!  You will not regret it.  Now enjoy this short clip from the movie.

This epic saga of love, greed and betrayal — which won four Oscars — stars Elizabeth Taylor as the passionate and ambitious Egyptian queen. Determined to hold on to the throne, she seduces the Roman emperor Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison). When Caesar is murdered, however, she redirects her attentions to his general, Marc Antony (Richard Burton), who vows to take power. But Caesar’s successor (Roddy McDowall) has other plans.
